It seems that there are 52 players in this year's Connect Four Championship.
The standings seem to indicate that only three players will be eliminated in the first round of this championship, all of whom will have been in Groups 1-4. It seems that all 24 players in Groups 5-8 will get a free pass to the next round. Does anyone else see this as a flaw in the championship format?

I know I wrote that in the 2014 championship season, but it still seems to be a glaring flaw with the championship system in use that some players effectively get free passes to the next round and others don't. Is there anything that can be done to prevent players from getting what amounts to a bye to the second round?
