What do the numbers on the bottom of the board (one for white, one for black) mean? On one game, the number went down when I moved, but on the next game it didn't.

I can't find it in the rules.

The number means: how many tiles a player needs to close a path. So in theory in how many moves a player can win (if the other player does not play a blocking move).
